If your laptop has a AMD APU Processor with Integrated Graphics (R5) then you must download the driver for your IGPU (R5) so that it will be compatible with both your IGPU and GPU card.Sometimes the IGPU is much older then the GPU card and the last driver is much older than the laptop's GPU card's driver. So the last latest driver for your GPU card probably wouldn't be compatible with your APU IGPU.So best thing to do is download the last AMD driver for your APU which will install both drivers for the IGPU and GPU in your laptop. But if your Laptop's Support site has driver that are about the same age it is best to install those rather then AMD laptop drivers which are generic while the laptop's OEM drivers will be 100% compatible with your laptop.NOTE: Since your laptop shut down due to a power outage I would run in a elevated Command Prompt/Powershell the following simple line command to check your Windows OS: SFC /scannowAlso before you run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) delete, if applicable, AMD Driver Installation folder at C:\AMD. Now run DDU and install the driver again.. Use DDU only when you want to clean install the GPU drivers. How to Uninstall GPU Drivers Using DDU. Remove all power & swap hardware ... AFTER you shutdown Windows While holding the "shift key" down before you select shutdown & KEEP that "shift key" down until PC is Off. (this Clears the Windows fast startup file, so Windows looks at current drivers & hardware & not just "restart from the old profile of last boot") swap cards On reboot, check that MB BIOS has Fast Boot turned OFF (you want MB to take inventory of hardware , save the BIOS change if needed & BOOT then enter Windows .... next , select Restart in Windows from shutdown menu. If you have any issues, then go offline (disconnect from network)..... & just use the Windows software removal tool to remove old driver ... reboot & then install driver & shutdown Windows While holding the "shift key" down before you select shutdown & KEEP that shift key down until PC is Off. & reboot again DDU is only Needed if you have issues or are switching brands from AMD to Nvidia GPU or Nvidia to AMD DDU has an update that mentions the boot loop, if I remember correctly & Always use safe mode with DDU ...... After you update your restore point & drive image & you already backup critical files (right) EDIT: Did not think to post this originally; but, people still make this mistake from time to time so, I thought I'd save someone somewhere the pain & mention ---> make sure you Turn Off all background software First, especially OC software like X1 or AB when installing GPU drivers & this also means you need to disable the auto-start feature, if you previously had it turned. Using DDU after new GPU installation?
As I know it's just something like a wrapper to load other already existing drivers. But I wonder why some programs can remove it but DDU can't. Is it a bug in DDU or it's something normal and expected? @Wagnard probably did this intentionally Wagnard Ancient Guru Messages: 2,780 Likes Received: 587 GPU: I'll check this on my end and will report back. Normally it should be removed. be sure to do it in safe mode and also when selecting to clear the Amd driver. if you can also throw me your DDU logs at info@wagnardsoft.com it would help. I have sent you my log files and information on how I reproduce the problem on my system. I was just going to swamp cards and maybe reinstall current drivers. But, I saw where folks suggest using DDU for a clean installation when changing gpus, but I don't know much about this software. Also, I've read that folks had issues after using DDU, such as getting stuck in an endless loop trying to boot windows. Any thoughts? Thanks...Al post edited by Methodical2 - 2023/08/28 07:32:29 "Never be afraid to try something new. After you update your restore point & drive image & you already backup critical files (right) EDIT: Did not think to post this originally; but, people still make this mistake from time to time so, I thought I'd save someone somewhere the pain & mention ---> make sure you Turn Off all background software First, especially OC software like X1 or AB when installing GPU drivers & this also means you need to disable the auto-start feature, if you previously had it turned
