Say like in vocal compression. #12 I'm getting very close to the sound of a hardware Distressor in extreme settings with the UAD 1176 REV E plug-in alone. They can sound very similar.I actually just posted this comparison vid today comparing the two: UAD 1176 Plug-ins vs EL Hardware Distressors - YouTubeExcellent! I actually prefer the plugin in that example, the kick sounds boomy through the Distressor. To perfectly match them, you could parallel the kick through something else. #13 On my Distressors (vocal use) I'm usually 6:1, HPF in the detector, and Distortion 2. A few dB of crush. The Fatso doesn't have the friendly mid level comp (6-8dB) that the Distressor has. It starts to pump too much. Just hitting it a bit, though, is quite Distressor like, but so is hitting it hard (10dB plus). On Fatso, use tracking comp mode, HP in the detector (120Hz, normally). Start with Warm 3. Try others - they get more aggressive, or more "warm", depending on the setting. Use transformer. Found this old thread, nice recommendations for the Fatso Matt, thanks for sharing. In my recent search for a Distressor replacement, I've tried out your settings, followed by an 1176 rev A with the attack off and have been. Waves Distressor. The originals are way cooler. The Distressor is not as thick and I often think that is a good thing, I've grown tired of my mc77, great on bass though..Of the three I would pick the distressor, not in love with it but I kind of need it more than I want to.. 2025-04-23#1 I came up with this, this afternoon. How close to the Distressor sound am I going to get by doing this:Run the FATSO without compression into the 1176 Rev E.I thought the logic that the Distressor is supposed to sound similar to the 1176, and the FATSO has a sort of coloring that's similar to the Distressor.Input on this is gladly welcomed. #2 I'm getting very close to the sound of a hardware Distressor in extreme settings with the UAD 1176 REV E plug-in alone. They can sound very similar.I actually just posted this comparison vid today comparing the two: UAD 1176 Plug-ins vs EL Hardware Distressors - YouTubeLet me know what you think. #3 I saw that in my other thread. What about in combination with the FATSO? I'd think that help to be way closer. #4 Nice vid! They actually sound quite alike. Did you use 4 rev e instances only? What are the settings? #5 I tend to use 1176 where I want an 1176, but use the Distressor in a way unique to it. I get pretty close with the Fatso Sr. Last edited: Aug 26, 2013 #6 Erol. what do you mean by 4?Matt, how are you doing that? 2025-04-10Out of Kick2. Do I feel something is needed after Kick2 by dialing in compression? Not very often.Sometimes blend real kicks with Kick2.On the acoustic kick end, UAD Fatso, API, 1176s, Distressor, and when messing with transients or getting crazy, Sonox Envolution. If my objective is simply to tame a basic transient, then any transient tool can work, but if going beyond just that...then the Envolution. And don't forget whatever you have in your DAW. Some have become very good, even if you don't care for the GUI.
