While Google Chrome is safely the most-used web browser, no one can deny its energy-hogging capabilities. To solve this problem and make Chrome more efficient, Google has now introduced new modes that will help save battery and memory. Read on to know more.Chrome Gets New Modes for Improved PerformanceGoogle has introduced the new Memory Saver and the Energy Saver modes for its Chrome web browser, which will help improve its performance. The Memory Saver mode will free up memory from the tabs that are not in use. With this, Chrome will consume up to 40% less memory and will ensure that the active tabs run smoothly. This mode can especially come in handy while using some heavy-duty websites or apps and even while playing online games. And if you want to use the inactive tab again, it will be reloaded for you to get going. The Energy Saver mode, on the other hand, will help you save battery by limiting background activity and visual effects. So, if you quickly want to search for something using Chrome and your battery level is as low as 20%, you will still be able to easily make the search without worrying that the battery will die.The new performance modes can be found under Chrome’s Settings (under the three-dotted menu in the top right corner) and will show near the search bar once enabled. Both the Memory Saver and the Energy Saver modes are now rolling out to Chrome for Desktop and should reach all users. Google Chrome ran out of memory while trying to display this webpage. Edge edges out Chrome with a default Balanced tracking prevention setting. It blocks harmful trackers from sites you haven’t visited, and ads will likely be less personalized. You can tweak tracking prevention to Strict or Basic from Edge Settings. Microsoft Edge also offers a browser essentials menu to save power with efficiency mode, check tabs performance and glance over browsing protection in the last 30 days. Performance If you are a casual user, you shouldn’t find any major differences between Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge on a high-speed internet connection. Avast recently did a speed comparison between major browsers, where Edge beat Chrome by small margins. Google Chrome also has a reputation for heavy memory consumption. We opened five identical tabs on Edge and Chrome and launched Windows Task Manager to check memory consumption. Chrome used around 1.7GB, while Edge only consumed 1.1GB RAM. A word on mobile apps Chrome and Edge offer feature-packed mobile apps on Android and iPhone. Google Chrome has a better UI and widgets with Material You on Android and it even offers lock screen widgets on iPhone. Edge lags behind with an outdated look and lack of lock screen widgets on iPhone. Google Chrome’s mobile apps aren’t consistent, though. While it uses the bottom menu for navigating relevant options on iOS, the Android app still has the address bar and other options at the top, which is very annoying on tall and big phones. Pick a better companion to browse the web Choosing between Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge doesn’t require rocket science. While Microsoft Edge offers superior tracking prevention, excellent tab management, performance and a neat Copilot integration, Google Chrome works better with Google Workspace apps, has a finer UI and a superior Google Translate tool. If you plan to ditch Google Chrome in favor of Microsoft Edge, make sure to export your bookmarks. After all, you won’t want to set up everything from scratch on Microsoft Edge. If, after freeing a memory location, a program does not clear the pointer to that memory, an attacker can use the error to manipulate the program. Heap corruption occurs when a program modifies the contents of a memory location outside of the memory allocated to the program. CVE-2023-4429 is another use after free vulnerability, this time in Loader, in Google Chrome prior to 116.0.5845.110, which allows a remote attacker to potentially exploit heap corruption via a crafted HTML page. CVE-2023-4428 is an out of bounds memory access in CSS, in Google Chrome prior to 116.0.5845.110, which allows a remote attacker to perform an out of bounds memory read via a crafted HTML page. An out-of-bounds write or read flaw makes it possible to manipulate parts of the memory which are allocated to more critical functions. Fix: Google Chrome Ran Out Of Memory

M108).The first new feature, dubbed Memory Saver, is designed to reduce the amount of memory Chrome’s tabs use. It does this by freeing up memory from inactive tabs, and putting them to sleep so they can’t monopolize your system’s resources. When you need to access the tabs again, they will be reloaded and become active. The goal of Energy Saver, meanwhile, is fairly self-explanatory -- helping your laptop battery last longer -- but it does so in a somewhat interesting way. When your battery drops to 20%, Chrome will try to prolong your battery life by “limiting background activity and visual effects for websites with animations and videos.”Presumably, this means Chrome will limit the kind of flashy effects that have made a comeback in web design in recent years. Google says that when these new features launch, users will still be able to customize them to their liking. You can disable either Memory Saver or Energy Saver (or both), and mark certain websites as exempt in Chrome’s settings. The changes could turn out to be important. While Chrome has managed to become the dominant Windows web browser and one of the best browsers for Mac, it has been plagued by poor memory management for years. If Memory Saver and Energy Saver are able to help ameliorate that -- and make your battery last longer too -- then Google might have gone some way to fixing Chrome’s biggest problem. Both Memory Saver and Energy Saver will be launched globally over the next few weeks. The features are coming to Chrome on Windows, macOS, and ChromeOS. Read more

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question. I usually use Safari and Google Chrome as my Search Browser's. I use google to search but it seems to redirect to a different search engine (For Google Chrome it redirects to yahoo and Safari it redirects to a couple of domains but ultimately lands on safesearch.com). When I switch the default search engine to duckduckgo, yahoo, etc, it doesn't seem to redirect to the domains (Only Google). I ran the MalwareBytes scan but it didnt find anything suspicious. I read the Removing "Search Marquis" / "Search Baron… - Apple Community article and provided the screenshots, but ultimately I don't know what I'm looking for in these files and if they are considered malicious. Google Chrome Sign in to your Android Police account Summary Google Chrome improves performance with Memory Saver and soon a one-click button for immediate fixes might be available too. Users can expect a pop-up alert to address performance issues by deactivating resource-hogging tabs. Chrome Canary users have early access to these features, promising improvements for all Chrome users soon. Google Chrome has gained notoriety for being a veritable resource-hog, running smoothly without lagging and stuttering only on newer, well-equipped computers. While the Android app doesn’t have such a reputation, Google built a feature for the desktop client last year, called Memory Saver, which snoozed unused tabs to free up resources for ones you’re interacting with. However, that comes with an associated timeout period before tabs are snoozed. Soon, a new one-click button in Chrome could immediately address any performance issues affecting your browsing experience. Related Google Chrome wants to make Memory Saver’s effect clearer The browser is working on more visual tweaks to show inactive tabs and their memory savings Performance has dragged Chrome down for years now, but features like Memory Saver and Energy Saver aim to accomplish the same end goal, preventing load build-up on your machine and maximizing the battery life on notebooks and our favorite Chromebooks. However, as far back as May, our reader and browser researcher @Leopeva64 on X (formerly Twitter) spotted Google adding Chrome flags describing a feature resembling Edge’s Performance detector (via WindowsReport). @Leopeva64\/X"" data-modal-id="single-image-modal" data-modal-container-id="single-image-modal-container" data-img-caption=""""> The changes would affect the behavior
