I’m not sure if I’m the first person to ever ask this question, but I’m sure starting to think so.Our company has a central file server used by our 100+ employees. This file servers stores all types of files, such as Microsoft documents(Word, Excel, Powerpoint), PDF files, image files (JPG, TIF, PNG, GIF), and video files (MP4, MOV, MKV, MTS, AVI). Many of our users are bad about capturing videos from customer sites and storing them on the server uncompressed, mostly because they are in a hurry and are not tech savvy enough to know how to compress the files before they dump them out on our network storage.We have a decent IT budget to allow me to come up with a method of cleaning up this 10+ terabyte monster, and I’ve found one solution that looks good called NXPowerLite for file servers that claims to constantly monitor and compress all types of files on your file server on-the-fly, and I think it would be a perfect solution for me EXCEPT it does nothing in the way of automating video compression on our file server.I need to find either some kind of appliance or software that’s designed to monitor all files/folders on our network storage server and scan for any video files that it can compress (deleting the original bloated video file in the process). I’ve been able to use handbrake to manually tackle some of the ridiculously large video files we have stored, compressing them by upwards of 75%, but I have thousands of video files scattered over hundreds of folders.I’m willing to pay for an automated solution that’s made to scan and compress videos automatically across multiple folders, but I can’t seem to find such a product in existence. Can anyone out there give me any suggestions? I don’t really have the free time to customize an intelligent script that can dive through the 90,000 folders on our file server, find large video files that haven’t already been compressed by Handbrake, and then compress the video file and delete the original, all while somehow flagging that file as now being compressed so that the script doesn’t try and compress the same video over and over again.I was totally willing to throw money at an automated file server solution if it existed, regardless of cost, but I guess
