Blue Jays Nation’s 2025 Pre-Season Prospect - Blue Jays Nation
After starting the 2024 season off well, today’s prospect suffered season-ending surgery. This is Blue Jays Nation’s annual Pre-Season Prospect Countdown, this time looking at the top 40 prospects in the organization. We’ll look at the player’s stats, my observations, and other publication’s scouting reports if available.Let’s take a look at our 16th-best Toronto Blue Jays prospect, Landen Maroudis! Getting to know Landen Maroudis…Position: Starting pitcher Throws: RightBorn: December 16, 2004Acquired: 4th-round, 2023 draftPrevious ranking: 15thPitching for Calvary Christian High School in Clearwater, Florida, Maroudis was selected in the fourth round of the 2023 draft by the Blue Jays. He signed for a reported bonus of $1.5 million, well above the $547,100 slot value for this pick. Like many pitchers the Blue Jays select out of high school, Maroudis didn’t make his professional debut until the following season.Although it was brief, it was a heck of a start to his professional career by the right-handed pitcher. Starting the season with the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays, Maroudis threw four perfect innings in his professional debut, striking out five batters in the process. His second start saw him give up his first career earned run while walking and striking out four batters. Maroudis pitched 2.1 innings in his final start with three strikeouts but left that game early. It turned out that the then-19-year-old needed surgery for his elbow like many Blue Jays’ minor league pitching prospects did in 2024. In late May, Maroudis underwent an operation that put a brace in his pitching elbow. Pitchers usually return quicker with this surgery rather than full Tommy John surgery, so he’ll likely be back at some point in 2025.Despite the injury, Maroudis ranked as MLB Pipeline’s 14th-best Blue Jays prospect in their mid-season update. Standing at 6’3”, 190 lbs, Maroudis reached 93-95 mph with his fastball, showed an advanced changeup, and has two excellent breaking balls, a slider and a curveball. He’s still young and hopefully, the missed season doesn’t impact his development too much. You feed robins? You might notice one following you about as your dig up your garden hoping to nab a few worms as you unearth them. Robins can also eat fruit, seeds, suet, crushed peanuts, sunflower hearts and raisins. They particularly enjoy mealworms. Robins are fans of insects and worms, but also feed on fruit and nuts in the wild.Do Blue Jays eat pine nuts?Their diet is mostly composed of vegetable matter and nuts, though. Apart from acorns (which they can easily crack open with their strong bills), Blue Jays eat shelled peanuts, beechnuts, macadamia nuts, pine nuts, pecans, and Brazil nuts. As long as it’s a type of nut, they’ll eat it!What is the best wild bird food?Black oil sunflower seed appeals to the greatest number of birds. Offer sunflower seeds, nyjer (thistle) seeds, and peanuts in separate feeders. When using blends, choose mixtures containing sunflower seeds, millet, and cracked corn—the three most popular types of birdseed.Do birds prefer shelled or unshelled peanuts?Whole, in-shell nuts are ideal for larger birds such as jays, crows, grackles, and larger woodpeckers. Smaller birds such as chickadees and titmice will prefer peanut hearts or chips that are already broken up. These small pieces are easier for their smaller bills. What is a cardinals favorite food?Natural fruits that attract these birds include blueberry bushes, mulberry trees, and other dark-colored berries. Bird seeds that have been known to attract Cardinals include black oil sunflower, cracked corn, suet, Nyjer® seed, mealworms, peanuts, safflower, striped sunflower, and sunflower hearts and chips. What is a blue jays favorite food?Blue Jays’ Favorite Foods Peanuts in any form—whole, shelled, or even peanut butter—are their favorites at backyard feeders. Putting out a handful of nuts is sure to invite a loud, raucous jay squabble over the tasty tidbits. One bird may even take several nuts at once, quickly flying off to hide his bounty. Can I give old walnuts to birds?Stale Nuts If you’ve got unsalted nuts that are past their prime, put them out and see which birds will take a bite. Here’s how to attract more backyard birds by feeding peanuts. What do robins eat when there is snow on the ground?Finding Winter Food Winter robins eat berries and other fruits left on shrubs, trees, and vines. Fruit is high in calories and doesn’t spoil quickly in cold temperatures. Summer’s leftover fruit becomes a robin’s winter diet. What do starlings like eating?Starlings’ preferred diet consists primarily of insects and berries, but if these are hard to find, they turn to our feeders instead. Their beaks are not designed for cracking hard seed shells, so they go first for the softer suet cakes, peanut pieces, and other foods without shells.Blue Jays Nation Radio - Hosted by The Nation Network - Acast
