The company developed an analog modeling engine that combines digital signal processing (DSP), machine learning (ML), and deep neural networks (DL).Instead of simulating the individual components of an analog circuit (such as the Tube Preamp plugin we covered recently), the Ariosa engine (and similar technologies) analyze the sound output of analog hardware to emulate its characteristics in the digital domain.British Kolorizer uses internal oversampling (96 kHz) with minimal latency and fairly low CPU consumption. The plugin sports a simple user interface with three control knobs and a volume output slider. The user can adjust the low-frequency boost (Fat knob), high-frequency boost (Bright knob), and the dry/wet level (Mix knob). Although the plugin is easy to operate, Master Tones provided ten presets to help new users get started.I tested British Kolorizer on a set of electronic drum samples and a couple of virtual synthesizers (Vital and Charlatan). It performed quite well. The Bright control adds clarity, and the Fat knob works well on synth bass, adding weight and a bit of growl. Master Volume vs. attenuator Thread starter schotter611 Start date Mar 16, 2022 This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links like Ebay, Amazon, and others. #1 Joined Aug 1, 2012 Posts 812 Location Berlin Owned some 5-15W amps, master and non-master (PRRI, AC10, AC4tvh, Laney L5T and VC15,…) and learned that anything is too loud for home use if you’re after some saturation. And: 5 watts can be just right in a small band (Dr/B/Git). Now, looking at my next amp purchase I was wondering if combining the 5 Watts (or even down 1 !!) with an attenuator would do the trick…Cleans wise I am after ‘thicker’ clean, rather scooped, with a hint to the bassy ‘bubbling’ of a fender style amp. But exactly that elusive ‘in between’, when cleans start thickening, is what I could never fully achieve with a master volume amp or/and pedals, unless playing out on stage (long time ago). Close, but not quite the same. So my contenders so far: Custom Vibro Champ or CPR68, with added attenuator Marshall JTM-1 Tone King Gremlin VHT Special 6 Ultra….? Any other ideas within the ‘mainstream’ realm? I know there are some more boutique options out there (Gries, Allen…) but not practically available in Europe. Spring Reverb appreciated but not mandatory. THX! #2 Only my take on things - I love working on and playing tube amps and own a few. They get played in the rehearsal space / basement, turned up, no attenuation. I agree with your assessment, for home use, any dimed amp is too much. But for home - meaning living room kinda vibe - imho a small modelling or solid state amp with pedals is the only solution, maybe also a headphone solution. Plenty of options. If you want tube, maybe a Vibro Champ XD.. maybe, and probably not dimed. Attenuation on a 5W/1W Tube amp.. mh.. I would not invest in this idea. YMMV #3 My preference is to use a small tube amp, right now either a SFPR or a Monoprice 5w (aka Harley Benton Tube 5) into a Bugera Power Soak (also available under Harley Benton brand, I think). The line out on the Bugera goes to a Hotone IR Cab pedal then to a mixer and speakers/headphone/PC. I mainly use multi-mic 4x12 EVM 12L IRs. For reverb, I use the built in on the SFPR or a Keeley Caverns with the Monoprice. #4 Joined Dec 18, 2007 Posts 1,597 Location Europe For home use I rather throw In an overdrive in front of an amp. The point being, any kind of meaningful tube saturation is beyond acceptable volume levels anyway and you miss out on the job the speaker is doing on higher volumes #5 Joined Aug 1, 2012 Posts 812 Location Berlin Good point about the speaker. My Laney (drive channel with Master vol) mixed with boosts/drive in front sounds quite ok. More useable than my AC4 on low power setting (so there I go, kind of answering my own question...). So what I am missing is probably mostly the speaker part. And that's not necessarily going to get much better with a higher end amp and better attenuator. #6 Joined Aug 1, 2012 Posts 812 Location Berlin ... Attenuation on a 5W/1W Tube amp.. mh.. I would not invest in this idea. Probably good advice (who would have thought...a forum thread keeping me from spending a grand on new gear..?) ! #7 #8 Owned some 5-15W amps, master and non-master (PRRI, AC10, AC4tvh, Laney L5T and VC15,…) and learned that anything is too loud for home use if you’re after some saturation. Spring Reverb appreciated but not mandatory. THX! Imho, what you are describing as your sonic desire comes when a tube amp is pushed….the preamp and the output. Ime, there is no way to get that except by pushing a tube amp to a certain point. So, to get something close to that sound at a low volume level, one is left needing an attenuator.…a good one. Will that attenuated am0 sound exactly like it did at full, unmitigated output? No, but depending on how much attenuation one uses a good attenuator can do what you want. Nothing sounds like a good tube amp set to that certain point where it is truly yielding the best it can yield, butTube Video Downloader Master for Android

Even when compromised it does a better job of any modeler As far as yielding tube tones. So, the question for you is “Do I want the best tube amp sound I can get at low volume levels, or do I want to leave tube sonics beh8nd for modelled approximation. As for the money??? I will posit that a GOOD modeling amp will cost more than the best attenuator. Modeling down on the bottom of the consumer‘s price level won’t get one there….imho…ommv…and we all have our own ears. Imho, a modeling amp with a solid state preamp and a tube output is a waste of good tubes in an attempt to further befuddle the consumer. I agree with what Leo Fender told the Music Man designers to whom he rented space in the MM factory….in a hybrid amp, the preamp should be in the tube domain and the output section should be solid state. #9 an attenuator will help get you that clean squish at "home" levels (as long as you don't play in an apartment, haha). once the power amp gets to the point of distortion, they don't sound very good at home levels. with a 1W amp you can run it into a cheap attenuator (like l-pad style, buy or build) and then into your audio interface (and do cab sim in the DAW) or an external cab sim (into monitors or headphones). i've always wanted to try out a wangs VT-1H for this. a 1W amp cooking but attenuated into a physical speaker is probably not going to get you the sound you want (not driving the speaker enough, perceptual loudness things, etc.). #10 middy Poster Extraordinaire Joined Apr 28, 2010 Posts 6,165 Age 54 Location MSP I agree with @bgmacaw and @loopfinding Any tube amp into a silent reactive load, then into an IR modeler then reverb/delay and out to headphones or studio monitors is the way to go. The Universal Audio Ox is expensive, and you need an iPad, but it lets you take any tube amp and get the sound of it cranked through world class studio cabinets, microphones, room, reverb, and delay, no muss or fuss, at any volume you like through headphones or monitors. #11 Joined Jan 11, 2007 Posts 872 Location Germany Hi!
