Apparently, I cannot use the VAD (Voice Activated Dialing) feature if I have a new text message or new voice message. The safety issue is that if I am driving, and want to use my bluetooth to make a call, the phone will not activate the voice command until I clear the new text or voice mail message indicator. I don’t want to play music or surf the Internet. I just want to make phone calls!”It may turn out, though, that these complaints are misdirected. Maybe the real problem isn’t new features — it’s the complexity added to the phones’ designs. But what if there were a way to add features without changing the phone itself? There is. Several super-simple cellular services are so sweet and satisfying, you can’t believe they’re free. They work by recognizing your voice, so you don’t have to master anything new on the phone itself — all of the complexity is hidden from you. Certain voice-driven freebies, in particular, have earned a permanent place on my phone’s speed-dial keys. All work alike: you dial an 800 number, speak your request and get the results in seconds, usually in the form of a text message on your phone. (Yes, the sort of person who uses the phrase “by cracky” may be unfamiliar with the glories of text messaging, and may bristle at having to pay 10 cents a text message, or $5 a month for hundreds. But remember: the services described here don’t require you to master sending such messages — only receiving them, which requires no skill at all.)800-GOOG-411. Cellphone carriers have plenty to be ashamed of. Case in point: when you dial 411 to look up a phone number, you’ll be billed $1.50 or $2.If it’s a business or store you’re looking up, for heaven’s sake, dial 800-GOOG-411 instead. It’s a voice-activated, national phone directory run by Google. It’s fast and efficient, and there are no ads or charges.A typical transcript goes like this. “GOOG411. What city and state?”You: “New York, New York.”Google: “New York, New York. What business name or category?”You: “Empire State Building.”Google: “Empire State Building! Searching. Top listing: Empire State Building on Fifth Avenue. I’ll connect you.”And your call is connected, just as though you’d dialed yourself. Or you can interrupt by saying “details” (meaning, “read me the phone number and address”)

Feb 29th, 2008, 04:38 AM #1 Thread Starter New Member Thread Starter--> [2008] Voice Activated Calculator Program ? Hello. I searched all of google today and was shocked to find that not a single Voice Activated Calculator Program exists or is for sale.I am determined to have one as soon as possible. I need one by the beginning of this summer but need it immediately. I would be willing to write one if only I had the knowledge. So my question to you all is: how long would it take me to learn Visual Basic and write such a program? I want it to be able to do calculations, so should I make my own calculator in VB or should I make it use another programs calculator and just write the voice activation to insert the equations for me? Also, I would like it to be completely voice activated and read the answer back (like text-to-speech does). I also want to be able to Pause the program And Unpause so that background sounds don't drive the program insane(especially in classrooms). Does this sound like a very difficult program to write? How difficult does it seem to you all? Any advice I would really appreciate. Thanks so much, MC Feb 29th, 2008, 11:35 AM #2 Re: [2008] Voice Activated Calculator Program ? Calculator programs are essentially programming 101 programming. They're not hard and a lot of books out there on teaching VB.NET start you off making one.Reading answers back isn't an issue either. Microsoft has that ability built into Windows and accessing it isn't hard to do from VB.NET. Having you speak commands into a microphone and having the program interpret your voice as key-presses... THAT is the hard part. Entire industries have been built on speech-to-text solutions. The programming is. Listen and respond to incoming SMS messages hands free! (Bluetooth enabled too) Hands-Free SMS is just what it sounds like – a Hands Free SMS application that you use to listen to and respond to SMS Text messages without using your hands. Instead, Hands-Free SMS is completely voice activated. Hands-Free SMS will automatically let you know when you have an incoming SMS text message and read the incoming SMS message if configured to do so. After reading the SMS, the application will ask you if you would like to reply, repeat, ignore, or call the sender back. If you reply “Reply”, it will ask for your reply. All you need to do is speak to the app to tell it what you want your reply to be. The app will then read your reply back to you, and once you confirm the correctness of the response, it is automatically sent on its way. If you say "Call", the app will call the sender back. If you say "Repeat", the SMS message will be read again. If you say "Ignore", no further action will be taken.Note this is the FREE version of the app, and as such, it is limited to replying to two text messages per day. If you would like unlimited replies, consider purchasing the full version. There is a link on the main screen of this app to the paid (full) version. On older versions of Android, certain SMS apps like Go SMS don't play nicely with other SMS apps as they intercept all incoming text messages and don't pass them on to other apps. Android addressed this in KitKat, but be aware that if you use earlier versions, and Have Go SMS installed, our app will not function.Note that recent updates to Google Search cause problems with Bluetooth
